Review #4: Lone Oak Coffee Co.

Name of Roaster: Lone Oak Coffee Co.

Location of Roaster (City, State, Country): Winchester, VA, USA

Name of Roast: Kenya AA - Nyeri

Type of Roast (Light, Medium, Dark): Light

Origin of Beans: Nyeri, Kenya

Price: $14 (12 oz)

Brewing Method (Drip, Chemex, AeroPress, etc.): Chemex

Time Between Purchase and Brewing (Ballpark is fine): Four days

Aroma: Chocolate chip cookies, bread, hints of sweetness, rich. After grind, more nutmeg on the nose. Nutty aroma on the pour.

Flavor Profile: Full body mouth feel, with flavor hitting strongest in the front-to-mid mouth; bright berry on the roof and front of mouth, slightly acidic, with an undercurrent of honey crossing the tongue thereafter. Lengthy aftertaste of warm bittersweet chocolate and nutmeg.

Overall Impression (What did you think of it? Anything else we should know?): We had heard great things about Lone Oak, and this roaster lived up to expectations. This was a delicious Kenyan, and the berry really shone through once we paired it with a chocolate muffin for breakfast. Our only regret is that we did not make a cup immediately after buying these amazing beans, which resulted in the bloom being a little less than it likely could have been if we were to have brewed a cup the day after purchase. Readers, take note: Lone Oak distributes its beans in paper bags, which makes the beans more prone to oxidation, so be sure to transfer the beans to airtight container to ensure freshness if you're not planning on getting into these right after buying. Regardless, this roast was exceptional and comes highly recommended by your friends at The Cortado.

Final Score (1-10, with 10 being the best cup of coffee in your life): 7.7.

Where to Buy: Lone Oak Coffee Co.
