Aroma: Upon opening the bag, we perceived rich chocolate and a slight smoke from the roast. Approaching after the grind revealed more baking spices; while the brew aroma brought forth molasses and sweet notes.

Flavor Profile: Rich, deep chocolate envelops the mouth in the beginning, coats the tongue, and settles at center and roof of mouth. A lighter, honeyed nut note follows, with the more bittersweet roast flavor then lingering on the roof and tip of the tongue.

Overall Impression (What did you think of it? Anything else we should know?): We picked up this bag upon the recommendation of a barista at HotBlack Coffee in Toronto (more on them in our forthcoming Toronto visit recap), which sources its beans from Detour. We sincerely appreciate the rec! If espresso roasts are your thing, no need to pair this blend with any food - it is a solid, enjoyable brew. Our palate leans to the lighter end of the spectrum, so after noting our initial impressions, we paired this cup with a bagel and cream cheese to cut the bittersweet flavor slightly. All in all, this blend makes a great cup of coffee.
