Review #6: Red Rooster Coffee Co.

Name of Roaster: Red Rooster Coffee Co.

Location of Roaster (City, State, Country): Floyd, VA

Name of Roast: Old Crow Cuppa Joe

Type of Roast (Light, Medium, Dark): Medium

Origin of Beans: South & Central America

Price: $12.99 (12 oz)

Brewing Method (Drip, Chemex, AeroPress, etc.): Chemex

Time Between Purchase and Brewing (Ballpark is fine): Six Days

Aroma: Upon opening the bag, the initial scent of the beans is chocolate chip cookie with baking spice and hazelnut. After grinding, we perceived warm chocolate and a light berry, with a hint of nutmeg. The brew had a honeyed scent on the pour.

Flavor Profile: First tastes of this cup brought a light, aromatic flavor that ran to the middle of the mouth, with lush warmth and medium body. Dominant berry notes were noted on the front end of the mouth, which linger, then fade into soft hazelnut with roasted peanut on the middle to back end of the cup. Red apple was also noted on the finish on the middle of the tongue, with decent acidity and very little bitterness on the finish.

Overall Impression (What did you think of it? Anything else we should know?): This was our first taste of a Red Rooster coffee, although we had heard great things about them in the past. Found in rural Virginia, Red Rooster provides an exceptional product, and we wholeheartedly recommend giving them a try. This blend is not overly complex, but does what it does with aplomb. The blend is very pleasant and quaffable on its own without a pairing, although we imagine the berry notes would go nicely with a chocolate-focused breakfast item. All in all, we think this is a great morning cup.

Final Score (1-10, with 10 being the best cup of coffee in your life): 7.7

Where to Buy: Red Rooster Coffee Co.
