Review #27: 3fe Coffee

Name of Roaster: 3fe Coffee Location of Roaster (City, State, Country): Dublin, Ireland Name of Roast: Las Brumas - Wild Forest Project Type of Roast (Light, Medium, Dark): Light/Medium Origin of Beans: Las Brumas, Sonsonate, San Blas, El Salvador Price: €12 (250g) / $14.72 (8.82 oz) Brewing Method (Drip, Chemex, AeroPress, etc.): Chemex Time Between Purchase and Brewing (Ballpark is fine): Sixteen Days Aroma: The coffee exhibited a softer scent profile than usual, with strawberry jam, cocoa powder, and light chocolate cake appearing when we opened the bag. Baking spice and a deeper chocolate emerged on the grind, along with fresh baked bread, but he scent was still soft overall. On the pour, rich brown sugar dominated. Flavor Profile: The coffee had a mid-palate entry. Rich, viscous, medium-to-full-bodied, the coffee stays low in the mouth and remains on the center of the tongue. Bright red berry is the top note, with smooth dark chocolate following. Secondary notes of toasted almond appeared along with a sharp, rounded red currant on the tip of tongue. The coffee is bright, with a balanced acidity and a slight peppery spice on the back end. On the sides, one picks up soft notes of dark chocolate. The lasting aromatics consist of red berry, nutmeg, slight floral notes, and dark chocolate, with an aftertaste on the tongue of medium dark chocolate. Overall Impression (What did you think of it? Anything else we should know?): This was a lovely coffee that we believe can stand on its own without a pairing. If a pairing is chosen, we recommend looking towards chocolate rather than red fruit, as the latter accentuates the acidity, while the former is quite complementary. It does have a slight acidity to it that is worth noting if you are more a fan of espresso roasts, but for those that enjoy lighter roasts, this is a great pick. Final Score (1-10, with 10 being the best cup of coffee in your life): 8.3. Where to Buy: 3fe Coffee Looking to do a review of your own? Hop over to the Community and get to it!
