Review #46: Vienna Coffee Company

Name of Roaster: Vienna Coffee Company Location of Roaster (City, State, Country): Maryville, TN

Name of Roast: Foothills Series: Colombia Finca El Eden Type of Roast (Light, Medium, Dark): Medium

Origin of Beans: Antioquia, Colombia Price: $15 (12 oz.) Brewing Method (Drip, Chemex, AeroPress, etc.): Chemex Time Between Purchase and Brewing (Ballpark is fine): 12 days Aroma: Opening the bag, we were greeted with scents of chocolate brownie, kindling, baked chocolate chip cookies, and strawberries and cream. The grind revealed salted cracker, dark chocolate, thyme, and a touch of red berry jam. Creamy caramel, light brown sugar, and molasses were found on the pour.

Flavor Profile: The coffee had a high entry that quickly moved along the roof the mouth to the center of the tongue before falling and sitting low on the palate. Bright flavors of orange peel, marmalade, cooked plum, and grapefruit flow through a warm, bittersweet chocolate, accompanied by cinnamon and nutmeg. As it cools, the body deepens, and the coffee becomes more viscous, providing a rich mouthfeel while still keeping its lightness on the finish. Aromatics of lingering mandarin orange and kiwi, along with a slight herbal quality follow a dark chocolate note. Overall Impression (What did you think of it? Anything else we should know?): This was the second of two roasts we received from Vienna Coffee Company to review. Energizing and complex while maintaining balance, this is a fun coffee to have on its own or paired with a variety of breakfast items. We enjoyed this cup with a savory bacon and egg sandwich, as well as with sweet items like buttermilk pancakes. The coffee has a greater depth of flavor than most Colombians we have sampled, while the flavors remain buoyant aromatically and on the palate. Recommended for all comers. Final Score (1-10, with 10 being the best cup of coffee in your life): 7.9 Where to Buy: Vienna Coffee Company Looking to do a review of your own? Hop over to the Community and get to it!
