Review #103: Mozart Kaffee

Name of Roaster: Mozart Kaffee

Location of Roaster (City, State, Country): Hamburg, Germany

Name of Roast: Premium Intensive Type of Roast (Light, Medium, Dark): Medium/Dark

Origin of Beans: N/A Price: $3.99 (250g / 8.8 oz) (before shipping)

Brewing Method (Drip, Chemex, AeroPress, etc.): Chemex Time Between Purchase and Brewing (Ballpark is fine): Twenty-One Days Aroma: Cutting open the bag, we noted sweet granola with raisins and dates, warm chocolate chips, strawberry jam, and a touch of kindling or black peppercorn on the back end. The coffee arrived pre-ground, so there was no option to experience the change in scent upon the grind. The pour offered light brown sugar, molasses, and cane sugar.

Flavor Profile: The sip arrives mid-to low-palate and slowly crosses across tongue to the back of the mouth, where it then rises to the roof. Flavors of kindling, the roast note, dark chocolate, and cinnamon show initially, while the sides of the tongue receive flavors of sharp lemon and orange. Aromatics of forest floor, pine, oak, and black peppercorn are noted throughout the sip and continue to the finish.

Overall Impression (What did you think of it? Anything else we should know?): This is your standard morning coffee meant for mornings in which you plan to consume multiple cups of coffee without much thought about the flavor in the cup. The flavor mellows with the addition of milk, and the coffee is versatile enough to pair with whatever you choose. We received this as a gift from a relative who was in Austria. Since we occasionally have posted souvenir coffees from our travels and commented on whether the beans were actually worth a purchase, we wanted to share our thoughts on this coffee. We found a link to a website that sells the coffee direct, so if you are interested in purchasing, you can find it below.

Final Score (1-10, with 10 being the best cup of coffee in your life): 7.0. Where to Buy: Enjoy Better Coffee
