Review #115: Black & White Coffee Roasters

Name of Roaster: Black & White Coffee Roasters

Location of Roaster (City, State, Country): Rolesville, North Carolina

Name of Roast: The Future

Type of Roast (Light, Medium, Dark): Medium Origin of Beans: Sidama, Ethiopia & Tolima, Colombia

Price: $18 (12 oz.) Brewing Method (Drip, Chemex, AeroPress, etc.): Chemex Time Between Purchase and Brewing (Ballpark is fine): Twenty Days Aroma: Tearing open the bag, we were greeted with scents of rich milk chocolate, graham, s’mores, marshmallow, rich chocolate brownie with frosting, and chocolate milk. The grind offered brighter notes, with baking spices emerging, bittersweet chocolate, chocolate cake, and cocoa. Caramel, nougat, dark brown sugar, and caramelizing raw cane sugar showed on the pour.

Flavor Profile: With a mid-to-low-palate entry, the coffee initially showed brightly, with lemon, soft melon, rounded orange, plum, and guava, over a rich chocolate base, balanced and soft. The sides of the tongue catch tomato and orange, while the tip of the tongue finds lemon and melon. At the outset, the finish is slightly dry, inviting return sips, but as the coffee cools, the finish grows sweeter and more cloying, but maintains balance.

Overall Impression (What did you think of it? Anything else we should know?): Bright and ebullient, this coffee is perfect for mornings when one needs an extra pick-me-up. Pairing well with milk and savory items, we recommend this coffee paired, as it was showed better as an accompaniment than on its own. That stated, with a complex flavor profile, this is definitely a worthy of purchase, and we look forward to trying more of Black & White's coffees in the future.

Final Score (1-10, with 10 being the best cup of coffee in your life): 8.1 Where to Buy: Black & White Coffee Roasters
