Review #133: Forgotten Coast Coffee Co.

Name of Roaster: Forgotten Coast Coffee Co.

Location of Roaster (City, State, Country): Duluth, Georgia

Name of Roast: Nueva Granada

Type of Roast (Light, Medium, Dark): Medium Origin of Beans: Guatemala

Price: $17.95 (12 oz.) Brewing Method (Drip, Chemex, AeroPress, etc.): Chemex Time Between Purchase and Brewing (Ballpark is fine): Twenty Days Aroma: Opening the bag, we noted bittersweet chocolate, crisp brownie crust, cocoa nibs, cocoa powder, and a touch of graham. On the grind, baking spices, soft, rich cocoa, bread crust, and soft baked cookie showed. On the pour, we found rich molasses, dark brown sugar, and toffee.

Flavor Profile: The sip arrived with a low-palate entry, rich and lush, with medium body. Initial notes of dark chocolate, nutmeg, and cinnamon were followed on the sides of the tongue by orange and lemon, while the tip of the tongue receives a touch of bitter lemon rind. As the coffee cooled, red fruit, including merlot, red apple, strawberry preserves, soft orange, and kiwi showed. Dense and clean on the finish.

Overall Impression (What did you think of it? Anything else we should know?): This was a sneakily complex coffee that unfurled over time, providing a delightful sip that could we taken alone or with accompaniment. We paired it with a fried egg on toast. If you're in the Atlanta area, we recommend stopping in and picking up a bag from this fine roaster.

Final Score (1-10, with 10 being the best cup of coffee in your life): 8.1 Where to Buy: Forgotten Coast Coffee Co.
