HOW TO: COLD BREW

Cold Brew

There are a slew of ways to make cold brew coffee. What you need are five items: coffee, cold water, something to put the coffee and water in, a filter, and time (really, the same stuff as regular coffee).

The Cortado's recommended approach is to use a french press and a 1:5 ratio of coffee to water. Get a coarse grind on the coffee and put 1/3 cup of the grinds in the beaker. Pour 1.5 cups of cold water into the beaker, stir everything with a spoon, and cover the top of the beaker with foil or saran wrap. Now pick up that nice book you've been meaning to read, because you need to let the coffee sit for at least 12 hours. Once the time has passed, depress the french press plunger into the beaker to filter the coffee, and pour the coffee into a separate carafe. Voila! Cold brew.

Remember, this stuff is super potent, so when you go to drink it, we recommend cutting it at a 1:1 ratio with water, or adding some milk and ice to look fancy like those professional photos we see in magazines.
