Location of Roaster (City, State, Country): Lancaster, PA Name of Roast: San Jacinto 2017 Reserve Lot Offering Type of Roast (Light, Medium, Dark): Medium Origin of Beans: Huehuetenango, Guatemala Price: $21.00 (10 oz) Brewing Method (Drip, Chemex, AeroPress, etc.): Chemex Time Between Purchase and Brewing (Ballpark is fine): Two Days Aroma: Tearing open the bag, we noted chocolate ganache, fig jam, graham cracker, and a touch of cherry. The grind revealed a bright mix of baking spices, sharp, warm chocolate, mango, and mixed berry, alongside a slight rich, spiced floral note reminiscent of tea. On the pour, we were met with a sweet, light brown sugar and cinnamon. Flavor Profile: This coffee had a surprising one-two punch of a light entry with a full body, with the coffee sitting in the front half of the mouth before slowly making its way across the tongue with a complex flavor profile. Lush, vibrant tropical fruit (mango, guava, dried banana chips) flourished on the front end with rounded mandarin orange, peach, and milk chocolate appearing underneath and in a second wave. The sides of the tongue picked up a lovely brightness that accentuated the flavors of chocolate and tropical fruit. The finish is dry and slightly acidic, bringing to mind black tea and orange peel. Overall Impression (What did you think of it? Anything else we should know?): This coffee was entirely unexpected and a whirlwind ride that we thoroughly enjoyed. The wild fruit and multiple layers to the coffee provide excitement for coffee fans and newcomers alike. Those who usually add sugar to their coffee will have no such need, while those who add milk to their coffee will find the flavors still shine and are not muted by the addition. We paired the coffee with a savory and a sweet and recommend both options. The dry finish was something we had never experienced in our reviews, and it originally took us aback, but we came to enjoy it as we continued our tasting. Additionally, this coffee continued to evolve as it cooled, with greater fruit showing. Needless to say, this is a great coffee that we highly recommend.
