Review #54: Alana's Coffee Roasters
Name of Roaster: Alana's Coffee Roasters Location of Roaster (City, State, Country): Mar Vista, Los Angeles, CA
Name of Roast: Ethiopia Limu Type of Roast (Light, Medium, Dark): Light Origin of Beans: Limu, Ethiopia Price: $10 (8 oz) Brewing Method (Drip, Chemex, AeroPress, etc.): Chemex Time Between Purchase and Brewing (Ballpark is fine): Twenty days Aroma: Opening the bag, we noted milk chocolate along with graham, spearmint, molasses, and an herbal potpourri. The grind showed baking spice, baked cookie, medium rich chocolate, and the aforementioned graham. On the pour, we noted light brown sugar, a delicate mixed floral, and caramelizing cane sugar.
Flavor Profile: The coffee rushed in with a high entry and full, lush mouthfeel that quickly filled the palate. Floral notes immediate coated the roof of the mouth, with orange zest, ripe peach, softened red apple, apricot, creamsicle, and rounded melon following. As the coffee cooled, the citrus showed further on the front of the tongue and a tea-like quality appeared, while the sides of the tongue captured acidity reminiscent of lime. The aromatics on the finish begin with the melange of fruit and floral on the front half of the tongue before fading into a grassy note, with a slight bitterness of dark chocolate cocoa powder lingering.
Overall Impression (What did you think of it? Anything else we should know?): This is a bright and balanced cup that is for those folks that want a light roast but not a coffee that tastes too heavily like tea. The cup went well with a variety of breakfast items, both savory and sweet, and held up when mixed with milk, as well. We think this is a great coffee and recommend picking up a bag at Alana's if you're in LA. Also, we'd like to note that Alana's is located close to LAX, Santa Monica, and the movie production campuses in Culver City, so if you're nearby, we recommend stopping in. Final Score (1-10, with 10 being the best cup of coffee in your life): 8.0 Where to Buy: Alana's Coffee Roasters Looking to do a review of your own? Hop over to the Community and get to it!
