Review #131: Wake Up Coffee Co.

Name of Roaster: Wake Up Coffee Co.

Location of Roaster (City, State, Country): Brunswick, GA

Name of Roast: The Whistler Blend

Type of Roast (Light, Medium, Dark): Medium Origin of Beans: Fazenda do Salto, Brazil; La Pastora, Costa Rica

Price: $14 (12 oz.) Brewing Method (Drip, Chemex, AeroPress, etc.): Chemex Time Between Purchase and Brewing (Ballpark is fine): Ten Days Aroma: Opening the bag, we noted baked crisp brownie, chocolate chip cookie, bread crust, touch of light brown sugar. On the grind, warm, soft notes of hazelnut, milk chocolate, pecan, raspberry coulis, and a hint of toffee showed. On the pour, molasses, dark brown sugar, toffee, and caramel were found.

Flavor Profile: The sip arrives high on the palate, with medium to heavy weight, sitting in front half of the mouth and on the tip of the tongue, floating first in dark chocolate bark, cocoa, dark brown sugar, and cinnamon before adding a touch of lemon. The sides of the tongue capture citrus and nutmeg, with a clean finish that leaves aromatics of high percentage sipping chocolate.

Overall Impression (What did you think of it? Anything else we should know?): Balanced. Pairs well with milk. We sampled with Dakota-style bread and butter. A great everyday go-to choice for those living near Brunswick or visiting nearby St. Simons Island.

Final Score (1-10, with 10 being the best cup of coffee in your life): 7.8 Where to Buy: Wake Up Coffee Co.
